At
8:46 a.m. eastern standard time, American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the
North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. It took no time at all
for firefighters, police, and other EMS personnel to rush to the scene. At 9:03
a.m. Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower. At 9:37 a.m. – the Pentagon,
and at 10:07 a.m., passengers took control of Flight 93 from the hijacker and
the plane crashed in a field in Somerset Pennsylvania. There were no survivors.
By this time, each and every one of us watching were in shock, many of us with
tears streaming down out faces. Some frantically attempting to contact
loved ones who were supposed to fly out or were in the city. It was a day of
sorrow, tragedy, anger, and fear.
We
will never forget this day in history. 2,996 people lost their lives that day.
343 were firefighters and 71 were police officers. Take a moment to remember
those we have lost, their loved ones, and those who ran towards the chaos
to assist. We will never forget.
