Nnamdi Kanu is a British citizen, in prison since October 14, 2015
in Abuja, Nigeria's capital by the will of the President, the General.Muhammadu
Buhari, despite numerous court orders requiring his immediate and unconditional
release.
Kanu is a political
prisoner because
it brings out the campaign for the right to self-determination of the
indigenous peoples of Biafra.
The secret police of Nigeria known as DSS Kanu has kidnapped and
arrested on his arrival in Lagos October 14, 2015 from London. He was falsely accused of treason and
detained by order of President Buhari who vowed to allow the release despite
the fact that the competent courts had ruled that he could not be held. Kanu is a human rights activist and
leader of the indigenous peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
Nnamdi Kanu is considered a wise man like few in his people. His words and teachings that were
often broadcast on Radio Biafra were regarded as hate speech by people who have
little or no knowledge of who he was, where it came from and what is its
mission. Nnamdi Kanu has been a
quiet leader but blunt, a leader who calmly and in truth brought the necessary
attention on what is the situation of raw Biafrans. There were mega protests in all cities
of Biafra in solidarity with the arrest of Mr. Kanu. Many Biafrans were killed and continue
to be killed by the Nigerian government, during and after these protests
despite the Biafrans manifested and always demonstrate peacefully and unarmed.
Recently, the EU and Amnesty International in their reports have
stated that Nigeria has violated the human rights of the prisoner Nnamdi Kanu
holding cell where he provided less than three square meters. The European Court of Human Rights in
Strasbourg has therefore condemned Nigeria for the inhuman and degrading
treatment that Nnamdi Kanu has received since he was arrested by the Nigerian
DSS, he continues to receive treatments that now in Kuje prison (Abuja). Nnamdi Kanu, a British voice and
indigenous leaders of Biafra (IPOB) was morally, mentally and physically
damaged by severe and inhuman torture received from the DSS agents on the
orders of President Buhari Nigerian.
According to Amnesty International, "hundreds of citizens of
Biafra are killed each year by corrupt Nigerian police officers, by the military
and the DSS officials, and all this happens in the total silence of the
Nigerian authorities and the administration of Muhammadu Buhari, who seems to
ignore the problem. One question
that many people ask is why AmnestyInternational has not yet said Nnamdi
Kanu Prisoner of conscience? Amnesty
International has never sent an observer to the process Kanu. The Nigerian government seeks to
punish Nnamdi Kanu for telling the truth. Kanu
requires that they must be released in a responsible and conscientious grounds
as it is convinced of being able to provide information which he reasonably
believes constitutes evidence of human rights abuses against its indigenous
people of Biafra that the Nigerian government would want to keep secret. This typically would be a reason for
Amnesty International to consider the person, in this case Kanu a prisoner of
conscience.
In other cases there was a much more effective intervention of
international organizations for human rights such as Amnesty For instance,
after the Pussy Riot group had staged a protest in Moscow, the Cathedral of
Christ the Savior last year, Amnesty International has urged the Russian
authorities to release three women arrested in connection with the incidents
prior to their trial.
These women were tough and provocative attitudes, but Amnesty
International has clearly stated that the Pussy Riot had been targeted because
of their "political opinion" recognizing these people the status of
POC (Prisoners Of Conscience) Kanu is an activist especially radio, human
rights and we can categorically affirm that he never preached hatred.
He was simply exercising his right to freedom of speech and
expression. All the things he
said have helped millions of indigenous people of Biafra to know their true
identity and their history. Kanu
has delivered the people of Biafra from mental slavery.
The reasons that led Nnamdi Kanu to fight for his people was
because he was horrified by the "thirst for blood" of the Nigerian
government, the army, the police and DSS. In
several videos taken are seen real "mass murders" committed during
peaceful demonstrations by unarmed civilians. He
hoped that the international community and public opinion would be outraged.
Amnesty and other welfare organizations, if they are not in danger
of endorsing the repression of the powerful Nigerians and losing its
credibility. The Nigerian government submits Kanu to an extremely punitive and
degrading treatment and no one is there for him, no one is speaking in his
defense, and this is very unfair on comparisons.
Freedom of information and speech has been recognized as a basic
human right to the inaugural session of the General Assembly of the United
Nations. Nnamdi Kanu has taken a huge risk to support and be the bearer of this
right. It is our urgent
and necessary warning that even Amnesty International asks for his release, and
that see given the status of POC
